Location

Located in the centre of Paris, this breathtaking Haussmannian apartment perfectly showcases what emotions architecture conveys to visitors.

Our work revolves around the history of the place. It’s by taking into account the existing heritage and respecting the original elements that we managed to develop its hidden resources.

Before we started, we got to know the place and its history as well as the history of its occupants. The renovation of this project mainly concerns the reception areas. The particularity of these apartments are the rooms in row: “the large living room is connected to the small living room by a door”. There is also the presence of numerous mouldings on the ceiling and a beautiful hardwood parquet.

For an apartment of this style, light is essential. Indeed, thanks to the many large windows, it takes an important place in the project.

We have several accesses for the small and large living room. Since they are not both necessary, we condemned one of them. As we didn’t want to remove an element that represents a part of the place’s history, we transformed one of the two doors into a contemplative work of art by making it stationary. In order to give it a contemporary touch and to add a particularity, we covered a part of this door with a brass panel. We also add a twisted handle as a nod to her old role and style. This creation is made possible thanks to the craftsmanship of our artisans. We then change the simple function of a door into a truly unique and exclusive work of art.

The project began to become more complex when the choice to connect the top apartment with the bottom one arrived. To address the problem of the ideal location, we install a staircase in the centre of the space. He divides the space in two and it echoes the history of the place of several living rooms in the same apartment. Thus, we transform a constraint into an advantage by placing it in the centre by giving a monumental character to the room. To respect the place spirit, it is obvious to give it a noble material. Bronze, by its nature, its solidity and especially by the emotions it transmits seems to us to be the best choice.

“Art at the centre of housing” is the very essence of this project. To support this, we install lighting that have influenced architecture and interior design in recent years, which our clients, collectors of iconic lamps, owned. We decided to highlight them like sculptures on marble pedestals. In order to give the same visual and metaphorical importance to all these works, we adjust their heights with pedestals of different sizes. To enhance them, we create arches specially designed for them. The presence of these historical pieces is the logical continuation of our reflection on the heritage of the place since it is a tribute to the craftsmen. It becomes a lounge/gallery where you can rest and admire the collectibles. In addition, alongside the staircase, sits a magnificent contemporary chandelier that is the perfect summary of emotions transmitted in the past.

Finally, the development of the two living rooms is in the extension of our vision with choices of furniture and decorations that form a coherent and harmonious set with their environment.
